Mayhem Aforethought is your chance to experience

Kinky Friedman & The Texas Jewboys in all their glory!

“This is a #$@%ing great CD!  It’s the raw, pure sound, the true essence of the Jewboys; 'Mayhem' is what it was really like!”                                         Kinky Friedman

“This CD is what it was, how it was, and who it was....it was premeditated chaos - hence the title.”

                                                                        Little Jewford

Recorded at The Record Plant, a celebrated recording studio in Sausalito, CA, during a live KSAN radio broadcast on August 19, 1973; it is the only album known to exist that represents a complete outrageous show with the original band members. (This same group appeared on the Grand Ole Opry two months earlier.)  The uncensored interplay between Kinky and the Jewboys during the show is as entertaining as the 13 songs.  In the studio audience during the recording that night was a small select group that included author Ken Kesey, and Jerry Garcia with his ‘Dead’ entourage.

Now imagine, if you will, 30 some odd years later, an older, not necessarily wiser, Little Jewford searching on a top shelf for memorabilia to send to a biographer, when the old Titano accordion case shifted starboard and Little Jewford didn’t move (his) aft quickly enough; a box fell and struck him on his head.  18 stitches later - he discovered, inside the belligerent box, the master tape from the 1973 session at the Record Plant.  When the pain killers wore off, he began the intensive work necessary to turn the tape into another stupendous Sphincter release.

Kinky Friedman & The Texas Jewboys burst onto the outlaw music scene in 1973.  They were irreverent, politically incorrect and in your face.  Kinky’s songs were witty, sarcastic, shocking and cutting edge; and that remains true today.  The original band members were; Little Jewford on keyboard, accordion, clavietta and kazoo, Billy Swan (who would go on to record the 1974 #1 hit single.... I Can Help) on rhythm guitar, lead guitarist Wichita Culpepper, bassist Willie Fong Young, and drummer Major Boles.

The artwork for the CD package is by famed Austin poster artist, Guy Juke and was the forerunner of the graphic image adopted by the campaign committee for Kinky Friedman for Governor 2006.

So, play Mayhem Aforethought, and for a few minutes, it’s as if you’ve turned on the radio on August 19, 1973, its Kinky Friedman & The Texas Jewboys, and......You are there.
